The engineering for this statue has been finished in 33 months. The height of the Statue of Unity is 182-meter which is double as compared to the statue of liberty in New York. It is attracting a mammoth number of tourists within days of its unveiling.
This project was handed over to Larsen & Turbo at a whopping an amount of 2,989 Crore, who started its construction on 31st October 2018. The company promised that the project will be finished within a period of 42 months without any escalation of fuel, labor, and material.
The Sardar Vallabhai Patel Statue was first announced at a press conference by Mr.Modi on 7th October 2010 to commensurate his 10th year running as Gujarat CM. In order to finish this project, the state had asked farmers to donate their used farm equipment to provide iron needed for the statue of Sardar Patel.
Eventually, around 5000 tonnes of iron were collected, although it was no use for the statue as previously thought it was used in the construction of the structure.
Why the Statue of Unity is built?
The Statue of Unity is a commitment towards the unification of the princely states in the formation of a consolidated Indian republic and his great efforts for the refugees leaving Delhi and Punjab.
Integrating the British colonial provinces which were allocated to India given him a title “Unifier of India”. It was in his memory and a mask of his contribution to the nation filled with diversities.

Mr. Patel was appointed as a Home Minister of India on the first anniversary of independence. As India’s first Home Minister and Deputy Minister, Patel played a crucial role in the integration of the princely states.
Interesting facts that distinguish the Statue of Unity
The visitors will be able to reach a 135-meter high gallery and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Narmada dam, the valley and the pilgrimage site of Garudeshwar. This gallery can accommodate around 200 people at a time.
Around 3000 tourists will be allowed to visit the place every day. The hospitality industry is taking the benefit of this place.
